...dancing on that bar...
it was the summer of 2000, i remembered it well i was at the brink of leaving high school to start college...and a movie was released...(now normally i wouldn't do a back to back movie thing, but this picture inspired me)....
& this quote..."Jim, Jack, Johnny Red, Johnny Black, and Jose; all my favorite men."
...the movie featured a young girl who moves to the city to become a song writer...well surprise, surprise...the world is a doggy dog world, & she can't get anyone to look at or even listen to her music...& to top it all off, her apartment gotten broken into and she has no money...can't even afford to buy a piece of pie...so what does any self respecting girl do...she becomes a hooker, no she gets a job at a restaurant or a bar, but not just any bar, this is like a strip joint minus the taking off the clothes...& yada, yada...of course she is afraid to dance on the bar, but guess what she has to save the day when a massive bar fight breaks out...& she does that by you guessed it, singing...the movie goes on, her boyfriend breaks up with her & her dad finds out...she has to realize what she needs to do...ie everything works out & she becomes famous b/c that is how hollywood rolls...
...this movie...ignited a fury around the country...girls not taking off their clothes (well showing some skin, and a lot of it) but dancing on bars...every girl (most of those of which i knew) wanted to work & be a coyote ugly girl...in fact i think it was the most popular costume circa Halloween 2000....why was that, this movie made every girl want to get up on bar & dance...b/c those girls in that movie personified what most girls at one time in their life wanted...not necessarily to be on a bar, dancing, & singing...but to be at the center of room commanding everyone's attention...that moment, where you walk into a room, & everyone is staring at you...& it doesn't have to be a room full of people it could easily be for that person to look up & take notice...these girls just made sure they were being noticed...
either way...the thing we must realize if you haven't already...is that the people that you mean something to, have always noticed you & those that don't, well as my brother tony says..."f&#$'em all"...
